Nostr is a decentralized, open communication protocol that allows anyone to publish and read messages across a network of independently operated servers called relays. Users are identified by cryptographic keys rather than accounts on any central platform, enabling censorship-resistant broadcasting without reliance on any corporation or government. It supports a wide range of use cases beyond microblogging, including groups, marketplaces, and decentralized collaboration tools.
Users hold cryptographic key pairs and sign messages that are broadcast to and stored by multiple independently operated relay servers, which any compatible client can query.
